Back Pain & Sciatica Relief
What is the cause of your Back Pain?
It is estimated that almost every four out of five persons in Canada face lower back pain once in their lifetime. The most common cause of back pain is a muscle injury, but it is also observed that sciatica may be the cause of it. The common treatment is Chiropractic Care or Physiotherapy, which can help treat acute and chronic back pain. It also reduces the chance of permanent injury.
A very common cause of back pain is sciatica. It is characterized by pain in legs, backbone and may extend to buttocks. The pain is sensational as it involves the nerves.
Understanding the difference between back pain and sciatica:
Back pain
There could be multiple causes of Back pain, i.e., car accidents, injuries occurred during sports activities, and poor sitting posture. The cause of the pain determines it to be chronic or acute.
- Acute back pain lasts for a short time and is more painful.
- Chronic back pain lasts for more than three months and is relatively persistent.
- The pain is usually experienced in the lower back muscles and spine.
Sciatica
The medical terminology to denote sciatica is “lumbar radiculopathy.” The pain of sciatica is extreme, but the diagnosis is easy. The sciatic nerve is the largest nerve in the body, and the sciatica is caused by damage or pressure on it.
- The pain is sensational, burning, and stinging.
- Usually occurring in the lower back, spine, legs, and buttocks.
- And may even extend to feet.
What causes my back pain or sciatica?
The most common cause of back pain is the injury which may be caused by trauma, or otherwise, it may be due to lifting weights often. Other causes may be due to the herniated disc or degenerative disc disease.
The pain of Sciatica is usually experienced by people aged between 30 to 50 years. The most common reason is the application of unbearable pressure on the sciatic nerve; other causes include arthritis, spurs, and injuries caused by sports activities and general ‘wear and tear’.
What should you do to prevent Sciatica or Back Pain?
Long sitting periods put pressure on the discs and ligaments in the lower back. If you’ve got a job that requires a lot of sitting, take frequent breaks, or try a standing desk. Try to get up and walk around as much as possible.
You don’t want to spend too much time lying in bed or on a sofa, while that does not make your symptoms worse, it may affect your muscles poorly and cause more discomfort as you try to get back to your lifestyle.
Bending forward and twisting your spine-all these movements can put extra stress on the lower back and the lumbar discs. If this is the cause of your sciatica, you will contribute to the aggravation of your condition. If you do need to bend down, slowly use your squat or lung instead of your back, try to engage your core muscles and try not to do it repeatedly.
